Benedict Holland, violin   Catherine Yates, violin

Susie Mészáros, viola   Jennifer Langridge, cello

  • Programme:

Haydn: Quartet op 76 no 4 ‘Sunrise’

Britten: Three Divertimenti (1933)

Mendelssohn: Quartet in D major op 44 no1.

String quartets always bring out the best of the Town Hall acoustic and the Victoria will exploit that to the full. Brimful of pedigree and experience, the Manchester based group comprises four stand-out musicians in their field. Each member has taken lead roles in other chamber ensembles including Psappha, the Chilingirian and Sorrel Quartets and Matisse Piano Quartet. They also share impressive credentials in solo work, leading orchestras and sections in opera and symphony orchestras, broadcasting and teaching. Since their inaugural concert in 2017, they have garnered an enviable calendar of recitals and workshops and the breadth of their work and immersion in every aspect of a musician’s life always promises performance and perspective of a rare quality.

At a time of retrenchment in school music it becomes especially important for us to support youth choirs which give opportunities for young people to develop their musical and social skills as well as recognising that a number of these singers go on to conservatoires and develop careers in music. The local Only Boys Aloud choir came to our 2018 summer concert but on this occasion we welcome the whole of the N Wales section under the direction of Eleri Wynn Watkins as part of the club’s “INSPIRE” project to close the season with a fitting and rousing finale!

Hamish McLaren, counter-tenor, the Halcyon String Quartet and Glen Dempsey, piano.

February 5 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
