Come and celebrate our 65th season!
Rhyl Music Club was founded by Michael Lewis MBE in 1946 and, as a member-driven charitable organisation, plays a major rôle in the cultural life not only of the town but the whole of the North Wales coast. Apart from support from Rhyl and Abergele Town Councils, we rely totally on concertgoers, donations and fundraising to provide a platform for some of today's newest and best musicians.
North Wales' premier live classical music venue
Whilst venues such as Theatre Clwyd and Venue Cymru offer a small number of classical concerts, only Rhyl Music Club stages a series of 12 concerts every year. The roll-call of international names of whom we have been privileged to hear in our 64 year history includes Martha Argerich, John Lill, Bryn Terfel, John Ogden and Nigel Kennedy.
12 first class concerts, October through March. Plus a Summer Celebrity concert
Our alternate Wednesday evening concert season began this year on 5 October and finishes on 21 March. The Summer Celebrity concert will take place on 6 June 2012.
One of the highlights of each season is the Young Musicians Concert, given by some of the outstanding young musicians of the locality. The Club presents the Muriel Lewis Award, named after the wife of our founder, for this event to any musicians showing exceptional talent who plan to make a career in music
Some of the best up-and-coming artistes in Europe
We have always striven, usually successfully, to attract the very best artistes we can afford for our discerning audiences. From chamber orchestras to brass ensembles, string, piano, wind and percussionist soloists to choirs and singers, the aim is always to provide the highest quality of live music outside of the main urban centres. This year is no exception with young performers from France and the Balkans joining our concert programme with well established professionals such as Gordon Fergus-Thompson.
Our own superb Bösendorfer grand piano
Since first acquiring a Steinway grand, the club has prided itself on being able to offer the top pianists an instrument of the highest quality. The current Bösendorfer is well able to handle both the exquisite tones of Llyr Williams and the bravura performances last year of Andrew Wilde or his protegé Slava Sidorenko - they would soon let us know if it were not up to scratch!
Excellent acoustic of the newly refurbished Rhyl Town Hall
Probably one of the best concert halls on the North Wales coast, the well furnished hall seats over 300 and has a bar and refreshment facilities. There are ample free parking spaces and disabled parking is available at the rear of the hall with both access and a lift.
